ABOUT US

Matt's picture Matt first learned to garden on a mountain in N. California through the Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOF) program. After that, he learned how to plan gardens at an meditation center/farm in the suburbs of Sacramento and there learned about garden planning. Since then, he has volunteer gardened at a number of places in the East Bay including Berkeley Youth Alternatives, the Watershed Nursery, and Longfellow School Garden in Berkeley. More recently, Matt’s worked with two different landscape companies. Currently Matt volunteers at the Ploughshares Nursery in Alameda where he helps with propagation, plant separation, watering, taking cuttings and seeding. Matt also designed and cultivates a backyard garden in the Temescal neighborhood of Oakland complete with vegetables and fruit trees, compost. Matt is most interested in gardening as a means to personal empowerment.

He then received a degree in Computational Finance from the Oregon Graduate Institute. Instead of going back home to complete his PhD thesis, he and his wife made their home in the East Bay where Pascal began to build his garden from scratch. He has completed the Master composter program offered by Alameda County Waste Management Department and all the Bay Friendly Garden (BFG) workshops. In 2007, his garden was selected to be part of the BFG tour. Pascal completed his Permaculture Design Certificate at Merritt College.
